Are You Born Again?
Dear reader,
There are several big issues we all face in becoming born-again ("saved"). The first is accepting that the Bible is the inspired and infallible declaration of God's Will for mankind. It lays out everything about life, death, the future, His person, our relationship with Him and His expectations of us. Another is accepting the fact that this all-holy and almighty God, truly does love each of us and has wonderful plans for our lives ... regardless of how deplorable our present condition might be. In fact, He loves YOU and all of us vastly more than human comprehension and desires to have a personal relationship. He also wants us to spend eternity with Him when we die, along with other born-agains; His "children" (the family of God; saints, redeemed, converted, etc.).
However, as explained in the Bible (scripture) His absolute holiness cannot tolerate the presence of sin. Like it or not and regardless that we think it unfair, each of us is born a sinner. Worse yet, unless that condition is reversed, it stands as a death sentence to eternally, separate us from Father God (in a horrible and agonizing way). Clearly, NOT His will! As to why that is and how it can be rectified is what His Son's (Jesus Christ) Gospel of Salvation explains and settles. For the moment, suffice it to say that it is imperative one's sinful condition be "cured" in order to ever have fellowship with God. We therefore must be born-again.
Please consider these two questions:
- If you should die right now, do you know for sure that you would go to heaven?
- If when you die, God asks, “Why should I let you enter heaven?” ... what would you say?
The Bible explains
The reasons why all must be born-again are in Romans 3:23, 6:23.
“All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” and “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Every person must be born-again for their sins to be forgiven and to have everlasting life.
"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God ... For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:3 and 3:16)
Salvation cannot be earned; we can do nothing on our own to merit it (a common religious error). Salvation is a free gift from God to us; granted by His grace and received by our faith.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
To become saved (born-again) we must truly repent of our sinful ways, unequivocally resolve to follow Jesus Christ, plus, accept and confess Him as our personal Savior and Lord.
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:9-10)
If you understand Jesus Christ's gospel of salvation, believe that He died for the forgiveness of your sins, genuinely repent and accept Him as your personal Savior and Lord, you will, by God’s grace through faith, be saved. You will be born-again and your soul will be secured for eternity.
Sample salvation prayer
“God, I believe in my heart that Jesus died and You raised him from the dead so that my sins could be forgiven and I offered eternal life. I understand I am a sinner in need of forgiveness and salvation. I repent of my sins and ask Jesus to save me. By so believing and stating, I herewith receive salvation by Your grace, through faith — not because of my own worthiness. I am now born-again and have your Holy Spirit in me. Thank you Father, for saving me!”
After you are born-again
• Locate and submit to a solid, Bible-teaching church (precede with much prayer).
• Make daily prayer and Bible study a non-negotiable habit.
• Immediately began telling others what God has done for you; your "testimony."
