The only One

As one studies the Word of God, it’s impossible not to see the overwhelming evidence of the divine “Only-ness” of Jesus.  Listed below are the “only” verses noted on pg 1455 of the NIV Thompson Chain-Reference Bible, to which I’ve added a few of the many, many other scriptures.  What strengthening of our faith results as we meditate on the uniqueness of the One and Only second person of the Trinity — the Lord Jesus Christ.  It is in Him that the believer lives, moves and has their true being (Ac 17:28a; Gal 2:20; Eph 2:4-6).

The Only Begotten Son of the Father:  "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth" — Jn 1:14. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" — Jn 3:16.

The Only Intercessor:  "He  saw that there was no one, He was appalled that there was no one to intervene; so His own arm worked salvation for Him, and His own righteousness sustained Him" — Isa 59:16.  "... Christ Jesus, Who died — more than that, Who was raised to life — is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us" — Rom 8:34.  "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them" — Heb 7:25 (see Heb 5:5; 6:20).

The Only Remedy: "Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life" — Jn 3:14,15.  "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him" — Jn 3:16,17.  "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved"  — Ac 4:12.

The Only Nourishment:  Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life.  He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty” — Jn 6:35.  On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.  Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him" — Jn 7:37-39a.  "The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life" — Jn 6:63b (see Mt 4:4).

The Only Source of Truth:   Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me" — Jn 14:6.  "All Truth is in Jesus; embodied and personified in Him" — Eph 4:21.  "Thy word is truth" — Jn 17:17b.  "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth" — Jn 1:14.

The Only Savior:  "Salvation is found in no-one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved" — Ac 4:12.  "I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no saviour" — Isa 43:11.  "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord" —  Lk 2:11.  "And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world" — 1Jn 4:14.

The Only Foundation:  "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ" — 1Cor 3:11.  "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation" — Isa 28:16.  "For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.  Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow-citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone" — Eph 2:18-20.

The Only Name:  "The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favour with God.  You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High" — Lk 1:30-33.  "Salvation is found in no-one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved" —  Ac 4:12.  (Jesus) "Who, being in very nature God, ... taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness ... found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross!  Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" — Php 2:6-11.  "The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.  After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.  So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs" —  Heb 1:3,4.  "On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS" — Rev 19:16 (see Acts 2:21, 38,39; 3:16).

May all praise, honor and glory be to the one and only Lord Jesus Christ; the only begotten Son of God.  He alone, could and DID offer Himself up as the acceptable sacrifice for our sins, restoring us to the Father.  May His matchless love for all mankind fill you with joy and the faith to believe totally in His almighty only-ness in your own life.  In His love.  — D.
