Water & Wrinkles

— Health from a biblical perspective —
Dear Health-seeker,
There’s unanimous agreement among health professionals that water is intricately linked to overall health and premature aging. Chronic dehydration causes back and bowel problems, gastro-intestinal issues such as ulcers, diverticulitis and constipation. Asthma and allergies are exacerbated by a chronic shortage of water — as are many other common health issues. Wrinkles, debilitation and early aging become the ultimate evidence. Drinking water is critical.
Controversy erupts concerning the kind of water to drink. That landscape is populated by the likes of the King James-only types who insist anything other than distilled is akin to sin. Opposite are advocates for drinking it “just as God made it”; in between float every other stripe. Do your homework — water is vital to your health.
Water & Wrinkles
Wither thou goest?
Have you ever wondered just why babies and the very young appear so full-bodied and plump compared to the withered look of oldsters? Water! When you remove the water from grapes — what do you get? Raisins! Sure, fat plays a role but it’s equally true that as we age, dehydration becomes a progressive fact of life. When born, some 77% of our bodies are made up of water but by our 60’s, that typically drops by 1/3 to 50%. Sodium chloride (salt) induced water retention (edema) in the overweight creates a similar appearance.
According to one expert, “gradual total body and cellular dehydration parallel the aging process. If we fail to drink adequate amounts of pure water the body will compensate, but at a high price. Nutritional, biochemical and energy resources that would otherwise be used to enhance longevity are redirected for survival. As a result, free radical damage proliferates, cell and tissue structure is compromised, metabolic residues and debris accumulate within cells and the process of aging accelerates.” When our cells are not adequately hydrated, various bodily functions are impaired. Wrinkles and illness ensue and life is shortened.
Safe drinking water is increasingly harder to find, also more difficult to get enough of it into our cells. Soft drink and coffee purveyors seemingly will not be satisfied until water becomes but a rare and temporary substitute for their own toxic brews. Profiting at one’s health expense, they argue that by consuming their products one gets “lots of water.” Aside from the fact that caffeine is a diuretic, thus contradicting their claim, no other liquid hydrates the body as well as plain, pure water.
Water molecules move from a location of abundance to where they’re scarcer; from high pressure to low. Pure water much more quickly hydrates the body because when drunk, its molecules are more concentrated in the digestive tract than the bloodstream. Water therefore moves from the intestines to the blood and from there to the cells. If anything is dissolved in the water (caffeine, sucrose, sodium chloride, flavorings, etc.) its molecular movement and therefore cell hydration is impaired. Sugar-saturated drinks (a 12 oz. soft drink can contain 11 teaspoons of sugar. Ask for HT-1, “Soft-Core Poison”) coffee, tea, cocktails, beer, etc. are not good beverages for hydration purposes. Frankly, anyone interested in health and longevity should remove all such drinks from their diets ASAP. They erode health, accelerate aging and shorten life!
Why Water?
Our Designer chose water as our body’s primary metabolic transport medium. In other words, practically nothing happens inside us without the involvement of water. It’s both the deliverer of nutrients to the body’s 100 trillion cells, and the means by which their metabolic waste is removed. It’s relationship to the body could be likened to the combined functioning of the rail, air, water and highway systems to a city. A city cannot exist without them. It’s dependent upon a constant inflow of food and supplies, plus the ongoing removal of waste materials. To the degree those services are compromised, so is the city’s ability to function.
Similarly, each of the body’s living cells is a complicated organism. It requires a steady supply of the right nutrients for each to do its unique job. Then, like all “jobs”, there’s the inevitable resultant debris, or waste. It too must constantly be removed in order for that cell to perform properly. If either or both of these functions are impaired, so is a cell’s systemic contribution to health and well-being. Water is the mainstay of both. There has to be enough of it; it has to be constant and it must be the right kind.
The right kind?
Yes, there are many types of water. In addition to tap water, there’s sea water, rain water, hard water, soft water, snow water, frozen water, spring water, mineral water, etc. In addition to these natural occurring forms, we have charcoal-filtered water, reverse-osmosis water, UV water, ionized and de-ionized water, distilled water, alkalized water — plus, newer, highly “processed” types recently coming to the market.
Water is a complex combination of elements — not simply “H2O” as we’ve all learned. Although that does describe its most fundamental makeup, in the real world, water also potentially carries with it 100’s of unrelated components in solution. Some good for health; most not. The simplest example would be the inorganic minerals and metals naturally found in ground water. By divine design, these are primarily intended to be delivered to plants, which when aided by sunlight, convert them into organic forms the body can utilize. Ingested in their inorganic form, they not only inhibit cellular hydration, they get deposited throughout the body where some return to their solid state. Look into the bottom of any well-used tea kettle to see the result of this process. Minerals will harden arteries, the joints and eventually stiffen one’s entire body — as happened to the “Stone Lady” P.T. Barnum used to display in his circus. Raised on Hot Springs, AR’s hardest of hard water, her body eventually became so mineralized, nails could be driven into it. The good news is pure water has the ability to dissolve these deposits for removal. But, the water must be pure; no additives.
Cellular Hydration
Complicating the matter, much of the water we drink does not actually hydrate our cells. It passes through with minimal benefit and at some risk. Much purified water, even with its fewer contaminant’s, still cannot adequately hydrate our cells. It’s not because of dissolved solids but its viscosity or thickness. Think of petroleum oil; it comes in different weights, or viscosity. The informed would never add sewing machine oil to a car’s engine. Nor would one try to use SAE 30 motor oil on intricate equipment. It would be too thick to flow into it.
So it is with water — even most purified types. Much of it is just too thick to flow into a cell’s tiny water inlet tubes (aquaporin). Water’s molecules tend to hydrostatically bunch together into clumps of five to even hundreds. To be able to enter and then hydrate cells, these clumps must be reduced to the the right size. This is where technology comes in. Ways (and products) are being devised to make those molecules line up in single file so that many more can get into our cells. The resultant water is therefore less viscous — it’s wetter and slipperier. Purer than distilled water, it has greater ability to dissolve inorganic minerals and absorb more toxins and naturally occurring metabolic waste. Highly purified water also works like an antioxidant. It has a voracious appetite for free radicals. It can thus help retard both wrinkles and aging. Fully hydrated cells make us look more like grapes, less like raisins. Without edema!
The Health Connection
Because the sense of thirst declines with age (Why, God?) most seniors become chronically dehydrated. It’s the most common cause for their hospital entry; also the reason why half die within a year thereafter. The body, primarily concerned with survival, always works on a priority basis in its allocation of the nutrient resources provided it. When they are rationed to various cells, tissues, glands and organs for an extended period, these components adapt by cutting back on the work each was intended to perform. Metabolic “housecleaning” declines; cellular repairs go unattended, enzyme and hormone supplies wither, etc. Every conceivable malady follows — with wrinkles and aging its hallmark.
We’re told the body uses 3-12 qts of water every day, depending on many factors. We encourage you to really do your homework on this subject, then pay the price for the best water you can afford.

I didn’t realize how much good the green drink was doing, until we ran out. I then became aware of how much hungrier I was without it. We’re going to order more TopGreen™! — Kirbyville, MO
I’ve been receiving your newsletter for a couple of years; they seem to get better and better. I especially liked the facts about barley grass and soft drinks. All of my research also supports the fact that nutrition is the key to health. America is hooked on fat and sugar and it’s ironic that the world’s most advanced society should be so ignorant of proper diet. Thanks for doing your part! — Tucker, AZ
Regarding your article, Losing Weight and Keeping it Lost. As a Certified Personal Trainer ... the biggest reason people are coming to the gym is to lose weight.
Though a few are very consistent and disciplined, many aren’t. What they seem to be looking for is a Silver Bullet, which translates — “How can I exercise enough to look good and lose weight without any nutritional changes?” A “Silver Bullet” does not exist! There is no way on the planet to compensate for an unhealthy lifestyle through exercise.
(Personally) I had worked very hard physical jobs most of my life and trained in martial arts for many years — but my early life still involved a lot of partying, poor nutrition and not enough sleep. That resulted in my gaining many extra pounds — though I could still do a hard day’s work with a lot of heavy lifting.
After praying about my health and weight last year, I decided to get the pounds off and keep them off. I’ve since lost almost 40 pounds and have kept it off for over a year. The biggest factor was changing my nutritional habits (not dieting). I also exercise regularly and drink purified water (not “filtered”).
God is good, life is good! May His best continue to be yours. — Sarasota, FL
