— Health from a biblical perspective —
Dear Friend,
Hardly a week goes by that we don’t see a media piece concerning taking off pounds via a surgical or other man-made procedure. For the most part, they produce the desired result — a better proportioned and better looking body. Their down side is not only extraordinary cost and the risk of procedural failure, but often the diminishing of health.
The only “healthy” way to lose weight is to draw down fat reserves. This article commends 2 synergistic steps that produce weight loss and better health. Combined, they can improve or eliminate: allergies, asthma, joint pain, constipation, colitis, dyspepsia, high blood pressure, heartburn, back pain, angina, migraine, etc. Unnatural weight-loss means often lead to regaining weight, less health and more devitalizing medicines.
Water & Weight
Drink pounds away!
It’s widely reported that two-thirds of Americans are now overweight and a third of all children are obese. This is not simply a “concern.” It’s an epidemic of historic proportions costing hundreds of billions a year. More distressingly, the health and emotional impact of chronic over-weight is devastating — debilitating the lives of millions. If a “disease” were afflicting so many, it would top the evening news with warnings, studies, prescriptions, etc. A federal “Department of Waistline Security” would be established to deal with it. Why none of these? Is it possible that fat is too big a golden egg to risk losing its goose?
The good news is that, for most people, overweight is readily correctable.
Moreover, a lean, healthy body can be achieved without the use of medications, packaged diets, expensive exercise equipment or the purchase of dead, processed food-kits, hyped by promulgators who’re living off the fat of the lambs (pun intended). I know, I know: “sounds too good to be true”, but you can healthily lose weight by doing two simple things:
• Drink lots of pure water
• Do lots of plain walking
The basic reason we gain extra weight is fundamentally simple: we take in more calories than the body requires. The physiologic why-fors can be more difficult to explain and for that reason, we refer you to one of the specialists we subscribe to: Dr. F. Batmanghelidj, M.D. Not only is “Dr. B,” a well-published professional researcher, he specializes in water and is recognized as one of today’s experts concerning water and health. Regarding the water-weight connection he states: “We eat to supply the brain with energy for its constant, round-the-clock activity. However, when food is eaten, only about 20% of it reaches the brain. The rest will gradually become stored (as fat) if muscle activity does not use up its allocated portion.”1 Accumulation of fat is not an issue with water derived energy because the unused water simply exits the body as urine.
Energy from water?!
Have you ever heard that water can energize your body? It’s true. If you pick up on this marvelous discovery you’ll be able to gain lots of energy without taking in so many of those calorie-laden substances that pack on body fat. In fact, you’ll be able to start burning your reserves, while at the same time, providing the many, many health benefits of better hydrating your body. Yup; simply by drinking (pure) water ... and walking.
Dr. B. explains it thus: “Recently it has been discovered that the human body has the ability to generate hydroelectric energy when water, by itself, goes through a cell membrane and turns some very special energy generating pumps; like hydroelectric power generation ... .” To this point, most physiology students think in terms of the body generating energy by slowly metabolizing food into glucose and producing what’s called “ATP”. Now we discover a quick, foodless “hydroelectric” form of energy, GTP, generated by water alone. Fascinating!
Of critical importance, the brain particularly relies on GTP for quick energy; like a car’s passing gear that delivers power on demand. It’s been learned that some metabolic activity requires one of these energy forms over the other, like some vehicles needing high-test rather than regular gasoline to run properly. The brain also depends heavily upon GTP, “particularly for its transport system in nerve supply to different parts of the body.”1
The 24/7 Brain
Our 9 trillion brain cells, comprised of 85% water, receive a 20% allocation of the body’s blood circulation from which to pick and choose nutrients to supply the energy needs required for continuous operation. Even while we’re sleeping, the brain handles information from all parts of the body. “To process all these inputs and alert all the parts of the body for coordinated response, the brain spends vast quantities of energy. At the same time, it expends energy in manufacturing primary ingredients and different chemical messengers (neurotransmitters) that are made in the brain cells and have to be transported to the nerve endings, wherever they are.”1
The weight Connection
In an effort to help us understand how this relates to gaining extra weight, Doctor B. explains: “The sensation of thirst and hunger are generated simultaneously to indicate the brain’s needs.” But, because we don’t distinguish betwen the two, we assume both are for food and therefore take in food when the body actually should be receiving water. A-ha!
The front of the brain gets energy from either water’s hydroelectricity or food-sugar in the blood — both dependent upon a ready supply of pure water. Here’s the problem: most adults are chronically dehydrated. This interferes with the brain routinely tapping into the body’s own energy reserves (fat). That requires a water-dependent hormonal release and some physical activity — but most adults are also sedentary; a “Catch-22” situation. To compensate, we’ve unknowingly perverted brain functioning to expect a blast of sugar for its quick-fix.
How to lose weight
FIRST: drink more water. The extra water will not only supply your body with energy needed for proper brain functioning — it’s required for every single metabolic process. The body operates on energy and uses a very sensitive management means to assure vital organs receive their share. It does so even at the expense of other necessary health activity such as the removal of metabolic and other toxic debris. Some of the energy-shorted activities are those that also help control our weight. The brain strives to keep the body’s most vital functions operational because life itself is more vital than good health or perfect weight. Extra (pure) water will help flush out both metabolic and environmental toxins — your skin and internal tissue will also improve (please read HN9-6, “Water & Wrinkles”).
SECONDLY: walk more. Today’s lifestyles typically involve more mental than physical activity and require a greater input of brain food. Meanwhile, the rest of the more sedentary body is being glutted with a surplus of food-borne calories. If this is not utilized, it will get stored as fat. These growing reserves increasingly need a larger and heavier body to accommodate all their potential energy. Healthy weight reduction requires the drawing down of these fat reserves.
Of all the exercises one might contemplate, plain walking historically gravitates to the top. It seems that, this kind of body motion produces very healthful benefits. As with all activated muscles, they can metabolize fat for energy needed to do their work. If more than minimal activity is performed, the extra fat will be converted to increasing their strength and mass. Sustained walking activates a fat-breaking enzyme called “hormone sensitive lipase”. Repeated tests conducted in Sweden have detected this enzyme in the blood after an hour of walking. But here’s the kicker: it retains its fat-breaking power for 12 hours! Once muscles begin to use fat, more sugar will become available for use by the brain. “With repeated walks, activity of the fat-burning enzymes become much more pronounced. It is this enzyme in circulation that will also clean all blood vessel walls of fatty plaques and deposits.”1
Drinking 2-3 quarts of PURE water a day will give you more GTP energy, stamina, and cut your appetite. Regular 30-60 minute walks will clean out your plumbing and use up stored fat. You WILL lose weight!
