Most of us don’t realize just how soiled and shabby our shoes are until compared with a new pair; they deteriorate slowly. So it is with our body’s internal condition. Though not as easy to inspect as shoes, we can get an idea of it’s inner repair by the way it looks, feels and works. If overweight, low on energy and has creaks, pains and requires medicines to keep it going, it’s a sure bet that it needs attention. Ideally, that starts with longer term, systemic detoxifying — not simply a colon cleanse.
This article gives an overview of the subject as well as some specific ideas to consider. The detox regime detailed also provides an introduction to a whole new healthy lifestyle that has delivered the two of us (and many others) to vibrant health with zero medical bills. We pray it will help you as much.

Any health enhancement program based on diet and lifestyle changes should begin with a cleansing of our mind and body. (Both typically need detoxifying!)
Keen observers have long realized that health’s enemies are not so much germs waiting to pounce on us, as are negative thinking plus the toxins festering deep in our tissues. These need purging before causing greater mischief and that process is called detoxification. (Reserving the mental for a later article, we’ll focus here on the physical.) That entails the removal of tissue-embedded toxins (poisons) that cause sickness, disease — even death. To a degree, we all harbor them, dependent mostly upon one’s diet and lifestyle.
Toxins gain entry via air, water, food, tobacco, drugs, cleaning products, medicines, cosmetics, chemicals, clothing, etc. Self-generated toxins (auto toxicity) pose another threat, being caused by improper food/drink combining, inadequate elimination, indigestion, “stinking thinking,” disease, plus the accumulated debris from normal metabolic activity.
House cleaning
Before embarking on a cleansing diet, realize that your body’s toxic load accumulated over a long period of time — item-by-item. A toxin from the Christmas ham of 17 years ago might be nested in fatty tissue next to the residue of your last flu remedy, alongside July’s air-ingested, chemical cocktail-du-jour. Upon entry and prior to being stored, each singly may have caused a negative reaction. When detoxifying, their impact can repeat or be amplified, especially if many enter the bloodstream at once.
That’s what happens when too vigorous a cleansing regime is undertaken. Toxins are drawn out of tissues, into the bloodstream where the circulation induces their original symptoms plus a synergistic effect. This is not to be feared so much as understood. Their temporary health impact is called a “healing crisis” and is good. They can appear as cold symptoms, nausea, diarrhea, etc (more in a future issue). If one’s symptoms become too severe, the process can be slowed by simply eating more cooked plant foods, such as a baked potato. It’s important to discern the difference between a healing crisis and true sickness. To prematurely reduce symptoms with less desirable foods or medications can be a health setback. Eliminate the negative
In preparation to rid your body of dangerous toxins, be mindful that this will require your elimination channels to work harder than usual. In addition to the colon and bladder, consideration should be given to supporting the liver, kidneys, lungs and skin (the eliminative organs). “If one takes the proper measures and uses a cleansing diet, herbal tea, juices, possibly enemas, colonics, proper exercise, warm salt baths and other cleansing modes, the body will be aided in elimination and assisted in overcoming the adverse symptoms ... ”1
Accentuate the positive
The purposes of cleansing are to improve the body’s ability to utilize nutrients and to rid it of sickness and disease-causing substances. Weight normalization is a fringe benefit. Healthy bodies can convert about half (50%) of food intake into energy. If a body is working at only 30% and is upped to 45; that’s a 50% gain. This cuts its food needs by the same amount. Simply put: the more congested one is, the less nutrition they can extract from food. The “cleaner” one is, the more they can absorb, requiring less food. Related considerations are digestion, food quality and combinations. One can buy the finest foods but if they are improperly processed or combined, the results can be quite poor.
Food combining
Ideally, the intestines should provide the bloodstream with only vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids, simple sugars and water — not poisons. When proteins are properly digested their end-product (amino acids) pass from the intestines to the blood. If improperly combined with other types of food, putrefactive bacteria ferment them into skatols, indols, hydrogen sulfide and other poisons. Similarly, when starches and sugars are properly prepared by good digestion for intestinal assimilation, their final stage is simple sugars (monosacchrides) which the body uses without difficulty. However, if starches undergo fermentation from being in the system too long or are mixed with incompatible substances, they produce acetic acid, alcohol and carbon dioxide. These poisons are absorbed into the bloodstream and adversely affect tissues, glandular ducts, joints, organs and genetically weak areas. They can cause arthritis, gout and many other painful and debilitating reactions.1
Food quality
Some foods are inherently easier to digest than others (namely plant- based compared to animal-derived). Then there are those substances considered “food” but which have no nutritional redeeming value, and in fact, can be health damaging and should NOT go into the body. Also, the finest plant-based foods can be rendered inferior by the way they are prepared (ie: cooking food kills the enzymes needed to digest it3). These must be considered when detoxing.
A detox regime
We favor a dietary approach centered around high quality, easy-to-digest raw plant foods and fresh juices, supplemented with nutrient-dense green drinks. Being at total odds with the S.A.D. (Standard American Diet) it should be implemented gradually and with wisdom, preferably under the supervision of a true “health” professional (we highly recommend the resources noted at the end of this article). One’s program should also include the aforementioned elimination supports to ease symptoms and organ distress.
Observing the body’s normal cycle3 is also important. The body should be fueled with the most substantial foods approximately between the hours of 11 AM and 7 PM. A semi-fast should than be observed until 11 AM the next day. That allows the body time to assimilate the digested nutrients from 7PM to 3 AM, then to heal and cleanse itself from 3 to 11AM; the elimination part of the cycle.3
Here’s a typical cleansing regime: First thing in the AM, drink 12-24 oz of pure, warm water with 2-4 tsp of raw apple cider vinegar; a tsp of raw honey can be added (use only this kind of vinegar). Within the hour, follow up with a quality green drink.2,3 Later when hungry, sip 8 oz of fresh carrot juice. A piece of juicy fruit can also be eaten before another green drink prior to lunch. That meal should consist of high caloric, low protein, raw, colorful, fresh plant foods such as avocado, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, celery, spinach, dark lettuce, mango, apple, bananas, dates, sprouted nuts and seeds, etc. (But not all together!). Please review correct food combining principles.1,3
At least 2 hours later another fresh carrot drink can be sipped, followed shortly by a piece of juicy fruit. One half hour prior to supper and on an empty stomach, a green drink will prep the system for its final meal during the ingestion/digestion part of the metabolic cycle.3 Supper should be a raw extravaganza and can be topped off by cooked food to finish the day’s eating period by 7 PM.
This regime is enhanced if preceded by a colon cleanse and accompanied by daily digestive enzymes. A 30-minute brisk, daily walk will also aid digestion and lymphatic function. With each passing day, the body will flush toxins, burn extra fat and powerfully energize itself. Hunger, low energy, sickness, disease and weight issues will be relegated to the past. In time, vibrant mental and physical well-being are produced.
