Dear Friend,

Earnestly hoping to distract you from nominal dietary and weight control thinking, we tardily present an article that should have been in “Robust Health” — our first book.  This subject is important because many earnest, better-health seekers become very involved in pursuing a particular dietary approach, without benefit of the larger picture.  This article is intended to help provide that view.  Remember, the goal is health — not becoming a vegan, vegetarian, fruitarian, raw foodist, air-feeder, etc.  All such approaches are merely means to that end.

As we’ve often emphasized, the most important part of any health improvement effort is to make sure you’re heading in the right direction at the outset.  We pray this will help you do just that, and to encourage your efforts.

 

Three Ways To Eat


Poor, better and best

No, our subject is not diets de jour,  it’s the QUALITY of what we eat.  Is it denatured, bioactive or biogenic?  Though hackneyed, the auto analogy serves to illustrate.  If its designer specifies Premium grade fuel and we use Economy, the engine will likely ping, knock, and at best, run poorly.  Upping to Mid-grade should help, but the engine will still fall short of optimal performance.  In both cases its mechanical health and longevity are put at greater risk — all because of a low-grade fuel supply.  So it is with our magnificently made body.  It’s been designed to operate on high quality food, water and air.  Lesser grades will cause it to “ping,” “knock” and be at greater risk of breaking down — even early failure.

Has it occurred to you that common symptoms such as colds, allergies, sinusitis, asthma, colitis, arthritis, constipation, candida, pimples, dry skin, boils, thin or graying hair, low energy, overweight, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, etc., etc. — could be due to using too low a grade of fuel?  On voluminous and well-founded authority, I believe that is the case. Most all illness, disease and weight issues are caused by what we put into our bodies, not external factors.

Denatured food

Like the low-end brew at gas pumps; it provides minimal energy and often  yuk that’ll damage your engine (Boy, have we paid a price BOTH ways!).  The word denatured literally means, “To deprive of natural qualities ... to render unfit for ... eating or drinking.”  Do you know how most food is denatured?  HEAT; pasteurization and cooking.  Both kill bad bacteria, PLUS the food’s life — corrupting what’s left.  Heat above 1060F begins to denature live food by killing its enzymes, mutating protein, and diminishing vitamins.1  Pasteurizing temps range from 131-158 degrees while cooking only begins at 2120.

Corruption’s tools are NOT limited to heat.  Most food is now microwaved, colored, genetically altered, irradiated, flavored, fractionalized, pummeled, pestacized, herbacized, warehoused, etc.  We view food stores as mausoleums; a place where dead food is stored.  As a like-minded friend says, “Once you leave the produce section, you’re in the non-food part of the store.”  As a result, the Standard American Diet (SAD) is comprised mostly of dead (denatured) food — also many harmful, non-food substances: soft drinks, caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, table salt, refined sugar, white flour products, medications, chemicals, cold-tar-based food supplements, colorings, etc. — all working against health.

The acronym C.R.A.P makes it easy to remember the SAD’s downside: Caffeine, Refined sugar/flour products, Animal derived and Processed foods.  When cooked, they become denatured and in any form, most are detrimental to health.  We must come to grips with the reality that there’s NO nutritional virtue in, for instance, enriched white bread.  All the flour’s original life and nutrients have been destroyed.  It’s a “virtual” food with little redeeming merit.

When regularly ingested, C.R.A.P. causes the body to “ping and knock”; warning us something’s not right.  Those signs are typically mis-construed as sickness:  allergies, headaches, colds, runny noses, aches, pains, pimples, etc.  Unattended, they can lead to illness and disease; even death.  Debilitating disease doesn’t just “happen” overnight.  It can take years, even decades of cellular abuse for it to bloom into a life-threatening issue. Denatured food is degenerative, hastening cells toward death.


BioActive Diet

A huge improvement over the former because it’s comprised of mostly raw, unprocessed, plant-derived food, complete with its enzymes.  It’s also beautiful and delicious!  It necessarily excludes animal-derived products and non-food substances. Lacking many of man’s additives, live foods spare the body untold work, plus wear and tear.  Bioactive eating also relies (mostly) on FOOD rather than supplements to provide the nutrients necessary to maintain health.  Aware of the vibrant health, energy and weight benefits of this approach, practitioners use only pure water and typically engage in blending, juicing, sprouting, green drinks, etc.  Most also include 5-35% of (quality) cooked food.2 Consideration is also given to food combinations and TIMING of ingestion.

Biogenic diets

Now you’re up to the “Premium” pump!  This fuel is not only live, it’s LIVING, with some of it still growing when eaten! This premium approach to fueling the body embraces pluses of the bioactive diet and takes a quantum health leap by emphasizing living and predigested foods.  The alterations may seem small but are health dynamite!

To appreciate the difference, consider a crisp, organic, spinach leaf.  It’s live because of not been processed to alter it’s natural make up — good news.  HOWEVER, it’s been severed from the roots which sustained it as a living food and is now in a state of progressive decay.  Creator-installed catabolic enzymes are at work to decompose and return it to the soil.  Though still looking fresh, much of its original nutrition has already been lost.  So it is with ALL of the very best quality “live” plant foods one can buy.  A benefit of having your own garden can thus be seen, especially for very perishable greens. Bioactive eating is regenerative.

By contrast, living food is just that; it’s still living!  It’s alive in your kitchen, it’s alive on your plate and on your fork.  In fact, it’s living right up until you take the first bite.  Food doesn’t come any fresher than that!  Is this some new “miracle” food?  Miraculous, yes — but certainly not new.  We’re referring to eating the repository of practically all nutrition; plant seeds themselves ... after soaking and/or being sprouted.

As a storehouse of future life, seeds contain proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats and carbohydrates.  When exposed to right growing conditions a miracle does happen; so evident in human conception.  Sprouting (germination) releases a powerful flow of life force, exploding a seed’s nutritional benefit by up to 400%!3 In the process, the health-damaging enzyme inhibitors present in raw seeds (also nuts, beans and legumes) are de-activated. Wondrously, its intrinsic enzymes begin to break down the starches into simple sugars; fats into fatty acids and protein to its aminos; all easier to digest.  When sprouted, seeds become largely pre-digested.

Biogenic eating embraces predigested foods such as fermented sea, soy and other plant foods — all of which are intended to conserve digestive energy and one’s limited metabolic enzymes.  Biogenic diets are highly regenerative. They aid, abet, amplify and contribute to the life process, rather than work against it.  Simply put: live bodies need live, better yet, “living” food.  Denatured, dead and toxic substances work against life.

What’s the point?

A body’s 100 trillion living cells are like miniscule energy-generating dynamos requiring a premium grade of food/fuel to perform as intended; not to mention — maintain cellular health.  They are being replaced at the rate of 300 million per minute and each succeeding generation can, at BEST, be only as healthy as the former.  In fact, they gradually become less vital until they can no longer perform; it’s called “aging.”  In the process of decline, their impaired functioning produces symptoms we call sickness, disease, and faltering energy.  Nurturing cells with premium fuel simply extends their healthy life.  Remember, as our cells go — so goes our tissues, our organs and our very life.

Premium food costs a little more but the health benefits are beyond value. Also, as vital as DIET is to good health, the body needs plenty of pure water, fresh air, sunshine, rest, sleep, exercise — plus mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.
