— Health from a biblical perspective —

Dear Health-minded Reader,

At the risk of being indelicate, I’ve seen raw food in my stools on occasion.  Rightly attributing it to a temporary digestive upset, I never gave its impact on my colon a thought.  The original cause of the problem was invariably remedied but its lingering effect on my colon’s flora was not even considered.  I was ignorant, in spite of many years of trying to practice sound diet, health and lifestyle principles.

Little did I realize the systemic harm unwittingly allowed to persist as I cycled on and off acidophilus caps, believing they would right things.  I thank God for eventually exposing that false security with knowledge.  If you persistently have the classic symptoms of faulty digestion, you may well need to take supplemental enzymes, plus restore an alkaline colon to acidity.

Colon Connection

The very foundation of good health

Regarding our thought-life, Proverbs 23:7 counsels that as a man thinks in his heart — so is he.  Health-wise, it can with equal truth be said, that as a person’s colon goes — so goes their health.  Colon condition is inextricably linked to every aspect of our health and well-being; it’s just that important.  So, let’s consider it.

Fueling our bodies with water and nutrients is supposed to accomplish 3 things: keep us alive; provide energy to conduct our lives and to supply materials for the repair and maintenance of our bodies.  This involves a 4-step process: ingestion, digestion, assimilation and elimination, each crucial to the end result.  Much is often said about the first three but less about the latter.  A stigma attached to anything connected to our “exhaust pipes” has kept most of us in the dark about the very physiologic foundation of health, to our great loss — even to our death.

Tracing the path of ingested food, digestion begins immediately in the mouth when ground and mixed with saliva’s amylase and the food’s enzymes that start breaking it down.  It then drops down the esophagus into the upper, “enzyme” stomach where it’s allowed to continue that process in a  warm, mildly acidic environment.  At some metabolically determined time, food moves into the highly acidic lower stomach where hydrochloric acid and pepsin further the digestive process; especially on the much harder to digest, complex animal proteins.

The stomach intermittently releases the resultant “chyme” through the pyloric valve into the duodenum  (first 10” of small intestine) where pancreatic enzymes and bile nearly complete digestion.  Continuing through ca-zillions of highly selective “villi” lining some 23 feet of small intestine, most of the process of assimilating (absorbing) nutrients into the system takes place.  The remains move on by way of the ileocecal valve into the colon’s base, the “cecum” — a small pouch on one’s lower right side from which the appendix dangles.

Being the priority activity, ingestion, digestion and assimilation consume as much as 80% of our body’s total energy.  This often results in post-meal drowsiness as our system struggles to both process food and keep us conscious at the same time.

From the cecum, it continues by moving up through the ascending colon on the right side of the abdominal cavity, crossing over to the left side and descends to the rectum.  In transit through the colon, where, ideally, friendly acidophilus bacteria dominate, nutrients formed by them are drawn off along with waste products and toxins by the network of mesenteric veins and delivered to the liver via the portal vein.  In fact, about 70% of the liver’s venous (oxygen depleted and contaminated) blood comes from the intestines.

Now, regardless of the quality of food processing work the body has so far accomplished, once the residue is delivered to the colon, it has another 5-feet and hours of work to go before the job is done.  Even if all worked perfectly up to this point, the venture cannot be declared successful until the remains quickly navigate the normally acidic climate of the colon and is eliminated from the body  This should occur 2-3 times/day.

So, what’s the problem?

An alkaline colon.  Antibiotics, alcohol and many other substances kill the acidophilus, causing the colon to become alkaline.  This paves the way for health issues, often far worse than those originally treated.  Also, a diet too high in animal protein and fat promotes the growth of unfriendly bacteria which literally “feed” cancer cells.  Should any, or a combination of the above become a persistent part of one’s lifestyle, colon climate can change from acidic to alkaline with all the attendant long-term consequences — even to the shortening of one’s life.

In addition to pervasive digestion and assimilation problems, ignorance has blinded us to this major issue.  Attending only to the former is like rearranging the deck chairs on a sinking ship — all for naught if the colon is not acidic.  Alkalinity kills acid-loving flora and the many other types of health advantageous “friendly” bacteria intended to reside there.  Alkalinity allows the growth of pathogens; unfriendly bacteria that breed sickness and disease.  Their toxins are carried up to the liver, which, because of the average person’s compromised health, may not be able to neutralize them.  These poisons can then seep through it into the bloodstream to circulate until settling at the body’s weakest points and creating secondary health issues.

An alkaline colon also provides the perfect environment for protein to putrefy, carbohydrates to ferment and fats to become rancid.  This not only produces bloating and noxious gas, it gives off a myriad of toxins that can literally poison our systems.  It’s called “toxemia” and is far more widespread than most realize.  How many today are suffering from a colon-caused hearing or vision loss; skin condition, tumors, cancer — ad infinitum?  There’s no limit to the health injury caused by an alkaline colon and most of us aren’t even aware until its ill fruit of sickness and disease manifests.

What’s the remedy?

Once the colon loses it’s acidity, it cannot be restored by popping a few acidophilus capsules or even by eating gallons of yogurt.  It requires an “implant”.  This entails cleaning the colon, by colonics, all the way up to the cecum.  This also neutralizes it so it must be re-acidified, then implanted with a human-based acidophilus culture. Four to eight weeks of nurturing and dietary vigilance is needed for it to become established.  Thereafter, one needs to include colon care in their diet and lifestyle; that is — if they desire to improve their health and longevity.

The fallacy of trying to restore destroyed flora by orally ingesting acidophilus capsules is, in the words of an authority, “like sending a few Boy Scouts to fight a major war in a hazardous environment where the enemy already controls the territory”1 — there’s no chance!  It requires a major, well organized campaign and follow up.  In the unlikely event any of the acid-loving “flowers” reached the colon, they would be met with an overwhelming army of pathogens in an alkaline environment, both being lethal.  However, mildly damaged colon flora can be nursed to health by orally-taken acidophilus or plant enzymes.  The seriously impaired  will likely require a rectal implant.

Speaking from personal experience, to attempt any health improvement program without first assuring the colon’s proper functioning would be like trying to frame a house before building a foundation.  The finest, organic foods might be eaten, along with juicing, green drinks, digestive enzymes, etc.  Some of this would no doubt help, but foods (regardless of pedigree) that reach an alkaline colon would still be perverted to health enemies of the body.  They would be used for generating toxins to poison, rather than nurture the body.  Proper elimination must first be established, starting with assuring an acidic colon and healthy flora; imperatives often overlooked.

Doctor Norman Walker author of many health books, a recognized authority and who lived healthy for 109 years, notes:  “The elimination of ... waste products is equally important to the proper digestion and assimilation of food.  In fact, I can think of nothing more significant and vital than preventing ... toxemia and toxic poisons.”2 His voice joins the many encouraging us, for health’s sake, to become more vigilant regarding diet and colon care.  There’s widespread agreement that a healthy colon is the very foundation of good health.

— Letters From Readers —

Would you please explain what is meant when you state in the Ultimate Health™ brochure: “Many ... vegetarians are as sick as the rest” — Jeannie; Pt Charlotte, FL

Thanks Jeannie,

... for your persistent effort to reach us by phone.  That statement takes into consideration the fact that not all vegetarians so eat for health reasons.  Other motivations are, religious and the love for animals.

Perhaps the major reason that many vegetarians are as sick as the rest is they also commit “foodacide” before imbibing.  They’ll often cook much of their plant-based diet, destroying its health-giving value — namely it’s enzymes.  The health promise of a vegetarian diet is that it offers the hope of nourishing the body’s 100 trillion living cells with health-supporting, enzymatically live (raw) fuel.

Another reason is that one cannot just eliminate meat and/or all other animal products from their diet without also making vital compensations; one being an alternate source of vitamin B-12.  A prolonged deficiency of B-12 can cause serious neurological problems.  Some making the herbivoric switch do not improve their health for yet other reasons.  Often they will significantly increase their intake of plant-based protein — a quality improvement, but likely not necessary.  Viable research has revealed that most Americans are already glutted with protein and if anything, need to reduce their intake.

All said in view of health’s other needs: pure air and water, exercise, sunshine, rest, sound sleep, low stress, etc.   — ed.
