Dear Health-seeker,
For the past 20 or so years, the yet fully unplumbed health benefits of green plants have been drawing the attention of health researchers. The more earnestly remedies for sickness and disease are sought, the more it is realized how marvelously God has already provided through the plant kingdom. In fact, life itself is possible only because of plants; their greatest benefit being the life-sustaining nutrients in their juice.
Today’s diets are woefully short of plant nutrients — GREEN ones in particular. Most diets are dominated by cooked, processed and acidifying substances that drain health reserves and invite sickness and disease. Green drinks are a tasty, quick and better way than food supplements to foster health. They’re becoming the “fast-food” of choice for many wise health seekers.
Green-drink Primer
Healthful and curative
A “green drink” is one derived from vital green plants — land or water. To help understand their merit, view them as multiple vitamin-mineral supplements in liquid form, though they offer much more. They’re a nutrient-dense source of protein, antioxidants, fatty acids, enzymes, detoxifiers, catachins, and provide a cornucopia of phytonutrients (chlorophyll, flavinoids, etc.).
Most share basic benefits, especially those from chlorophyll, antioxidants, phytonutrients and alkalinity. Some have special qualities, depending upon the plants used. For example, drinks made from barley-grass have anti-inflammatories more powerful than cortisone, also very aggressive free-radical scavengers. Drinks from wheat-grass can be very high in minerals. Algaes can also be used, such as chlorella which excels at detoxifying metals. Blue-green algae and spirulina are others — another type contains a whopping 70% protein!
A closer look
Like any other quality food, a drink’s ingredients must be LIVE and not processed such as to devitalize it. They should also be pure, without fillers or preservatives; nothing to corrupt or diminish the drink’s nutrient value. The quality of plant material used is vital. It should be grown organically — w/o pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers. Soil should also be nutrient-dense and the growing water pure.
Growing medium
A plant cannot deliver to our bodies any more nutrients than can be made from the raw materials found in its soil. Thus the quality of the growing medium is more important than the theoretical health benefits of a given plant type. Many consumers are paying for nutrients not received because of inadequate soil. Palatability
A drink can be made from alfalfa, barley grass, cabbage, celery, chard, chlorella, cilantro, clover, dandelion, dulse, kale, kelp, kamut, kudzu, parsley, purslane, spinach, spirulina, wheat grass and numerous other plants. One might even create a nutritious green drink from pine needles, pond scum and sea weeds. But if it’s not palatable enough to drink 2-3 times every day, it’s of no practical value.
Affordability
Green drinks should be a daily part of one’s health maintenance and thus affordable. Multi-level marketed products are often priced beyond the budgets of many. Distributors purchasing at “wholesale” often can’t afford enough to derive the needed benefit. A green drink must not only be live, of high nutritional quality and palatable — but, affordable too.
Photosynthesis
Plants are agents for that life-giving biological process — photosynthesis. Via complex chemistry and chlorophyll, sun power is converted to food energy. Water and nutrients from the ground plus air’s carbon dioxide are combined to create carbohydrates, sugars, proteins and oxygen. Enzymes also get attached to each mineral molecule drawn from the soil. This imparts life to what otherwise are nothing more than particles of dissolved metals and rock (iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc.). All life is maintained by this process.
“Living” drinks
Living plant enzymes are needed by the body to digest each nutrient. Foods missing endogenous enzymes require the body to reassign a major part of its own army of metabolic enzymes from health maintenance tasks to make up for the shortage. Mind and body then both suffer when enough aren’t left to perform all the chores necessary for good health. It’s also the reason most plant foods should be eaten raw. Enzymes are very heat-sensitive, all being destroyed by 1220 F. That’s why cooking diminishes health; it kills the life in the food (foodicide!). Living tissues require LIVE food; it’s a law of nature and a major reason why green drinks are so healthful. They’re loaded with live enzymes!
True “fast-foods”
Green drinks are healthy fast-foods that lend themselves to today’s busy lifestyles. Making them a part of the daily diet assures getting a wide range of living, essential nutrients. The rush-and-go pace of today often makes it difficult for even the most earnest to properly fuel their bodies. Green drinks can be a great help, some even available in convenient capsule form. Busy people can now nourish the body’s 100 trillion living cells with live food throughout the day.
Retard aging
A major contributor to physical deterioration are unchecked free-radicals caused by toxins, pollution, medications, radiation, etc. Green barley drinks are especially high in antioxidants: E-succinate, the enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) and 2-O-GIV. They are abundant, extremely aggressive free-radical scavenging and destroying substances that retard aging.
More energy
Just as a car's engine will ping, knock and lack power if the wrong fuel is used, so do our bodies. In fact, the average American’s diet is so nutritionally poor, people not only become sick and diseased, they often don’t have enough energy to get through a day without periodic stimulants (sugar, caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, soda-pop, etc). Being pre-digested, green drink nutrients arrive at the cellular level quickly where they’re converted to HEALTHY go-power — normalizing energy generation while contributing to long-term good health.
Less joint pain
Two special proteins in barley-grass, P4-D1 and D1-G1, were identified in 1983 by scientists, Matsuoka and Kubota. When injected, they unleash anti-inflammatories more potent than the steroid, cortisone. Their thought that this might benefit arthritis sufferers has since been confirmed by thousands of green drink consumers. Some get relief in a very short time — even after years of pain and countless doses of health-robbing medications.
Cancer prevention
According to the 1981 Fraser study by Dr. Lai, cereal-grass extracts (barley, oat, rye, wheat) inhibited the growth of benzopyrene and methylchloratherane, both dangerous, cancer-causing substances. Another well-conducted, 3-year study by Dr. Arthur Robinson at the Linus Pauling Institute produced a 35-fold decrease of cancer in mice that consumed diets high in cereal grass nutrients.
Healthy weight control
Meeting cellular nutritional needs and balancing pH cuts one’s appetite for weight-producing substances. In so doing, green drinks satisfy hunger while helping reduce cravings for bad foods; 20-80 pound weight-loss reports are common. Truly healthy foods do not cause weight gain!
Improved blood sugar
One high quality barley drink has been endorsed by the Diabetes Resource Center, which states: “... better blood glucose control can be achieved.” Other benefits frequently reported are, improved immune system, bowel regulation, healing, body odor, hair and skin — plus more vitality and lower medical bills.
Caution and Conclusion
Beware of drinks containing everything with any nutritional merit and sport a mind-boggling label. Their green plant content might be a mere 25% and the combinations, quality and quantity of ingredients are often questionable. Some use undesirable stimulants, fillers, flavorings — plus sweeteners to make the concoction go down. A quality drink is derived SOLELY from 100% live green plants and contains only 1 or 2 ingredients. Try one 2-3 times a day for 10 days; prove their merit for yourself. Even without embracing other healthy lifestyle measures, live green drinks are a win-winner and a better value than traditional food supplements; dollar for dollar, they’re a great deal.
