Oxidative Therapy

— Health from a biblical perspective —

Dear health-minded Reader,

Our food motto is, Green is good! Of all the appealing, delicious and healthful foods, green types are the most beneficial ... assuming they’re fresh, whole, ripe and raw (preferably organic too).  But, when it comes to imperatives of life, nothing compares with oxygen.  It’s on top — followed by water, sodium, potassium and calcium, in that order.  Nothing good happens in our body without oxygen ... but some very bad things do occur when cells, tissues and organs are oxygen deprived.

As with water, most of us are low on oxygen.  Ta-daa!  Enter “Oxidative Therapy” with its ways and means of supplementing the body’s oxygen; much as with nutrition.  Methods are typically simple, cheap and easy to apply.  We pray this will prompt you to further study and profitable application.

Oxidative Therapy

Oxygen is GOOD!

We concluded the last article by noting that most Americans are getting far less oxygen than they did a few decades ago and listed the manifold reasons.  As with being chronically dehydrated, a persistent shortage of oxygen can lead to many health issues because it is required for every (healthy) cell’s functioning.  Though we can’t turn the clock back to an environmentally healthier time, we can alter our lifestyles and CAN supplement to get more oxygen.

Just as it’s become commonplace to supplement our similarly compromised food supply with green drinks, smoothies, vitamins, minerals, etc., we can also embrace ways of gaining more oxygen.  However, unlike nutrition’s esophageal and injection intake limitations, oxidative therapy has additional avenues of entrance: lungs and skin.  Although lungs are obvious, we often overlook the fact that our skin is (literally) porous.  It’s punctuated with pores to both excrete and take in substances.  Skin is a semi-permeable membrane that absorbs far more health-adverse substances than most of us really want to know about.  Included are most of the ingredients in MOST cosmetics and personal care products.

Momentarily digressing, I’m of the opinion that if the average person were to understand how really toxic (poisonous) the ingredients in many of the most common products are, they would not use them.  People are not stupid; more likely uninformed, misled ... or intentionally ignorant.  For the most part, we simply do not realize that these “approved” products contain harmful substances and/or that the skin is so absorbent.  But they DO, and it is!  The good news is that skin’s porosity can also be used to enhance our health by absorbing more oxygen.

Supplementation

We must first be aware of the various ways and means of oxygen supplementation.

Four primary means are:
1) Inhalation
2) Ingestion
3) Injection
4) Absorption
Oxygen’s main sources are:
1) Pure air
2) Pure water
3) Raw food & bitter herbs
4) Exercise
5) Hydrogen peroxide
6) Ozone generator
7) Tank (liquid or gas)
8) Concentrator
9) Hypobaric chamber

Unfortunately, the sick-care industry has gotten oxygen listed as a “drug” and exercise god-like control over it.  Therefore, certain therapy means and sources are out of reach of us “laity”.  These are: injection, some inhalation and absorption means, plus bottled oxygen, concentrators and hypobaric chambers.  That leaves some inhalation, absorption and all ingestion means and with the exception of sources 7, 8 and 9, all the others are available.  In spite of these limitations, this leaves quite a lot to work with and draw from; more than adequate for most needs.

Oxidative Therapy

Referring to our last article,1 there are two main kinds of cells: aerobic and anaerobic; good and bad; healthy and unhealthy.  Healthy tissue thrives in an oxygen-rich environment and diseased tissue cannot tolerate it.  This is the fundamental doctrine of oxidative therapy. Simplistically, it follows: if more oxygen can be delivered to impaired or diseased tissue, it can be cured, not merely “treated”.

But oxygen does more than improve health ... as priceless as THAT is.  It boosts our energy and endurance; it makes us feel bright, more alert, and it’s invigorating.  That’s why people feel so good after a summer rain and why we want to breathe more deeply of fresh, rain-washed air.  There’s more oxygen in it.  It’s why the garden grows better on rain water than on the poisoned (chlorinated) tap brew.  It contains more oxygen. Hydrogen Peroxide.  Since earlier articles have already dealt with the major oxygen sources of water, food and exercise, let’s consider a fourth:

Hydrogen Peroxide

Why a disinfectant? — because it’s chemically comprised of the body’s two most vitally needed elements: water and oxygen.  Water contains 2-parts hydrogen and 1-part oxygen (H2O) whereas hydrogen peroxide is made up of 2-parts hydrogen, plus two of oxygen (H2O2); it has 1 more oxygen molecule than water.

When this oxygen-rich and unstable combination comes in contact with organic matter, it breaks down.  It releases that extra oxygen (gas) molecule and this is exactly what we observe when hydrogen peroxide is poured onto a fresh wound.  The molecule falls apart.  It releases its extra oxygen (the bubbling) and leaves plain water.  It’s the oxygen that also makes it a disinfectant. It kills bacteria by “oxidizing” them.  In effect, they burn up ... as do most things in the presence of oxygen.

Even iron “burns” — but this slower form of oxidation is called rusting.  Extreme oxidation can be seen with each Shuttle space-craft launch.  Most are familiar with that huge, insulated(!) liquid-O tank strapped between two solid-fuel rockets.  When its sub-freezing oxygen bursts into a fuel-filled combustion chamber, the liquid-to-gas and oxidation reactions are so powerful, it becomes a controlled explosion that produces enough thrust to lift thousands of tons, up and away from the pad.

Yet, oxygen is edible; it’s non-toxic!  We can take advantage of these characteristics, with this caveat:  For most applications, only “food-grade” hydrogen peroxide should be used.  The widely available, “3% U.S.P.” (pharmaceutical grade) contains toxic chemical and metal stabilizers that limit their use to small external skin areas.  Neither should it be used for puncture wounds for fear of those stabilizers getting into the blood stream — not to mention that 3% is vastly too strong for internal use.

Oral:  (1) Use 3% H2O2 as a mouth wash and gargle, especially if you’re dealing with periodontal infections.  It’s much cheaper and safer than prescription medicine or alcohol-based products.  (2) Brush your teeth (and gums) with 2-3% H2O2, an excellent and inexpensive way to maintain oral health.  Begin by swishing approximately one tablespoonful, than introduce a little baking soda or soda-based tooth paste.  They form a very effective “medicine” to keep mouth and breath fresh and healthy.  The hydrogen peroxide will immediately release oxygen gas that can reach places the most conscientious flosser cannot.  As a bonus, it will whiten your teeth and sanitize the brush.

Ingestion of H2O2 is yet another way to increase the body’s oxygen level; sublingually and via the G.I. tract.  Here’s where wisdom and caution are vital.  Although non-toxic, if too concentrated, it can injure; even kill.  Typically, a 35% concentrate is diluted by 600-1200% (that’s 1/2 to one drop per ounce of water).  Since one ounce of water contains about 600 drops, all you need do is fill a glass with pure water.  Then, with an eye dropper, add one drop of 35% concentrate per 1-2 oz of water (the dropper can be calibrated to speed up the process).  H2O2 can be added to the glassful to be drunk 30 minutes before each meal (re: past teachings on water).  I also add it to the pint drunk first thing after my morning oral routine.  Go cautiously because there’s no standard strength — and age, weight and health are factors.

H2O2 baths are another way to get more oxygen.  Combined with epson salts or baking soda, they’re marvelous for skin health; relaxing too.  Hot tubs, sprays, food sanitizing; for house or garden plants and pets are more of myriad ways to enhance health by oxygen supplementation.

I’ve run out of space before even “tickling” the subject.  More about H2O2 next time and we’ll also get into ozone as another oxygen source.  Meanwhile, I encourage you to study the resources below.
