— Health from a biblical perspective —
Dear Health-Minded Reader,
During 40 years of trying to maintain and upgrade health, we’ve had three distinct “Eurekas!” The first arrived after 33 years of trial and error; of doing all the usual things: replacing dietary stupidities with healthier choices; gulping handfuls of supplements, drinking protein shakes and filtered water, etc. It came by way of a friend on 8/18/98 when we were so very ill with seven tick-borne diseases between us. Here it is: “Live bodies need live food.” The second, concerning water, came in 5/03 through Dr. Batmanghelidj: “Water is more important than food.” The third clicked in during Diane’s lung attack in 12/04: “Oxygenate or dissipate.” All have monumental health significance and represent breakthroughs in our understanding.
This is the first of several articles about water; God willing, we will follow with a series concerning oxygenation.
Water Breakthrough
Two monumental discoveries.
Pointedly, here’s the gist of two well researched, clinically tested and peer-reviewed discoveries that can radically impact your health:
Discovery #1: Water is vastly more important than what’s dissolved in it. It is more vital to health than any other fluid, food, supplement, AND more curative than most chemical medications prescribed today.
Discovery #2: The foundational cause of most physically-originated pain, illness and degenerative disease is the chronic shortage of water: inadvertent, persistent dehydration.
It will take several articles to cover the most germane aspects of these powerful new insights, so I strongly urge you to study some of the references at this article’s foot. Please also know that we have no other purpose for featuring the works of Dr. Batmanghelidj than to help you and yours with health issues. Our library contains a number of other well-read works on the subject, but none with the illumination of “Dr. B’s” breakthrough discoveries and their health potential. Be advised, this will likely require more than just tweaking your understanding. More like an overhaul! I pray for the words to help you grasp its import.
“Flat-World” view
For eons, the sickness industry has been operating on a chemistry-derived concept of water-based solutions that does not serve well when metabolically applied. Its prevailing view is that the material (solute) dissolved in water (solvent) is THE most important component of their combination (solution) — certainly more so than the water. This errant concept has focused most research, diagnostic and remedial efforts on the solute, with water seen as little more than solute’s servant, a nutrient transport medium and space filler.
The outworking of this has been a near inexhaustible parade of “new and improved” solutes packaged in the form of capsules, tablets pills and injections — few, if any, having the ability to cure; perhaps alleviate the symptom, but unable to resolve the underlying cause. This is why medical claims are legally constrained to “treating” rather than curing. Granted, some chemical “remedies” CAN provide a symptom respite during which wise lifestyle changes can allow the body time to heal itself.
The most tragic and lethal outcome of this flat-world view of water-based solutions is that it births conclusions diametrically opposed to the body’s divinely-imbued efforts to sustain and/or restore sound health.
“Round-World” view
In contrast stands quite the opposite understanding and the towering work of Dr. Batmanghelidj. Decades of his peer-reviewed research and clinical work have proven that a solution’s WATER is in fact the most important element - not what might be dissolved in it. In other words, as important as all the water-soluble materials might be, none eclipse the metabolic significance of water itself. Second only to oxygen in elemental importance, it has been determined that all solutes must first be energized by water to carry out their metabolic purpose. Water is the “king” and all solutes its vassels!
The implications of this “round-world” view of water are breath-taking in therapeutic potential. As a result, hydropathic prescriptions (treating illness with water) are at odds with prevailing, “flat-world” allopathic protocols (treating illness with chemical medicines). I.e.: allopathy prescribes a diuretic chemical for water retention (edema) and a vascular dilating chemical for high BP (hypertension). Neither of these, rest-of-your-life palliatives have the power to cure; merely alleviate — at considerable expense to one’s health and purse. Conversely, hydropathy’s prescription for both symptoms is the same: drink more water. Moreover, water DOES cure and does enhance health. Essentially free!
Chronic Dehydration
There’s a growing awareness of this wholesale health problem and much confusion re: cause and remedy. It’s estimated that 75% of Americans suffer from inadvertent, persistent dehydration and don’t realize it. It’s become the norm for folks to tote a water bottle, especially in the very dry southwest. So much so, a space visitor might think humans come equipped from birth with bottles. It’s a good thing, but there’s a downside of habitually sipping that can be likened to “snacking” on a Bible. The latter doesn’t adequately fill one with God’s truth — nor can sipping properly hydrate the body. Yet, both typically believe themselves to be godly and/or well hydrated. Deadly delusions! For the health and life-sustaining power of water or Scripture to do their physical and spiritual work, they must be regularly ingested in adequate quantities.
Dehydration causes extend beyond not drinking enough water. Problematical are the fluids taken in instead of water: alcohol, coffee, tea, juice, colas, diet soda, smoothies, shakes, etc. Caffeinated drinks flush more water out of the body than they contain; they are diuretics. Also, for proper hydration, water must be “free” — not “bound” as it is in solution. Very soon after intake, free water is put to work, then it is no longer free and must be replaced with more of the same.
The body circulates the equivalent of 40,000, 8-ounce glassfuls of water each day. It also loses 6-8 glasses through exhalation, perspiration, elimination and sweating — not to mention the metabolic loss when water is broken down into its oxygen and hydrogen components. This is where the daily minimum intake of 6-8 glasses is derived. It follows, if one does strenuous work, exercise or lives in a very a hot climate, more is needed. To determine your daily need, divide your weight by 2; this equals the number of ounces. For example: 160/2 equals 80 ounces, or 10 glassfuls of “free” water — over and above all other fluids drunk.
Timing and salt are also vital. Conspicuously, the body requires more water during strenuous work or exercise. Not so obvious is its water need prior to eating. Digestion requires a large quantity of water in the G-I tract and pancreas. If that water isn’t supplied, the body draws it from surrounding tissue, further dehydrating and stressing it. This is the reason eight ounces should be drunk a half hour prior to meals. It passes quickly through the stomach into the intestines to hydrate its walls in preparation to receive food. Some also goes to the pancreas to produce a bicarbonate solution to be injected into the duodenum (the enlarged part of the small intestine attached to the stomach’s pyloric valve) to neutralize the acidic food (chyme) when it leaves the stomach. Water is also needed to plump up the stomach’s acid-protective lining. All this requires about half an hour.
Think about this
What I’m about to say is not intended as general criticism of health-field workers. In fact, it is not the people I want to draw attention to, but the premises upon which some of their work is based. According to this new “round-world” paradigm concerning solutions, names given some maladies and their remedies are based on error. It means that, right now, you are possibly being treated for a “disease,” when in fact your body is merely thirsty. It means that for over a century and at the cost of untold billions, many earnest, co-dependent medical-pharmaceutical people have been looking for cures in the wrong place. This explains why most cures have eluded them. It explains why, at the end of expansive descriptions of health issues, most such treatise close with, “etiology unknown.” It explains why this enormously expensive industry has become far better at inventing 25-cent names than making patients healthy. Folks, it’s a round world and water is king; it cures!

Dear Upset, We understand; we’ve been dealing with conflicting counsel for 40 yrs. The differences between much of it, and what we offer are: most of it is at our expense; motivation is to help, not profit; we teach what we live, and it filters through godly people. — ed.
