Robust Health ABCs

— Health from a biblical perspective —

 

Dear Health-minded Reader,

Of ongoing concern is what might be called a “magic bullet” mentality exhibited by so many health seekers. Its origin is easy to trace back to the “pill-for-every-ill” medicinal approach to health that most are molded and conditioned by.  Even after attending a “Bible-based Health Seminar™” or reading our various publications, some still harbor the idea that health can be found in a bottle.  It simply doesn’t work that way!

No matter how natural, good, organic or nutrient-dense the contents of a bottle, it might be but one component of the recipe for health.  An obvious pitfall of that thinking is, if the bottled “magic” doesn’t soon give the desired result (and it probably won’t) the deceived one gives up with the justification, “Well, I’ tried!”  We pray this article will help clarify the issue.

 

Robust Health ABCs


There’s no magic bullet!

No single piece of clothing can make for a well-dressed person and neither can any one component of a healthy lifestyle produce sickness-free vigor and vitality.  It’s the right combination of all the pieces that creates the desired result in both instances.

The need to re-examine this basic concept stems from all-too-frequent conversations with persons who’ve become disenchanted and often discouraged with their failed health improvement efforts.  Comments range from, “Oh, I tried that exercise program and all I got from it was sore muscles!”— to, “Heck, I bought 2 bottles of that stuff and it didn’t do a bit of good.”  Still others report of  having purchased a juice extractor, an exerciser, books, tapes, videos, a dehydrator or water distiller, with no significant change in their health.   Again — good health can neither be gained nor maintained by employing any single component of a healthy lifestyle; they must be harmoniously and wisely blended to produce the results most folks are seeking.

Healthy Lifestyle Basics

Some are as familiar as your name but others might well be new to you.  Here’s a list of the obvious:

A Tranquil Mind: Stress; be it created by responsibility, fear, worry, guilt, finances, time, anger, unforgiveness, etc, can thwart the most therapeutic exercise and nutritional regimen.  A direct relationship between spiritual, mental and emotional condition and a person’s physical well-being is irrefutable.  The proverbial saying, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” — is really true.  If a physical problem is rooted in one’s intangible being, physical therapy will, at best, provide only temporary relief.  Please keep this in mind if, at some point, you’re doing everything else right but a particular health issue does not yield.  In the meantime, do everything possible to attain and maintain a calm and peaceful state of mind.

Exercise:  Few would doubt that most now live fairly sedentary lifestyles.  We eat, drive to work, sit most of the day, then drive home to eat, sit, lay or nap for much of the evening  Many hours of every weekend are similarly spent, sitting in front of the TV (not you ladies, us guys!).  The obvious resultant problems are that our body becomes soft, flabby and more toxic.  Toxic?  Poisoned is a fair synonym.  Cellular residue from the body’s metabolic processes, plus many other substances taken in through the lungs, skin and digestive tract are quite poisonous.  The body depends majorly on the lymphatic system to gather these toxins for removal through the normal elimination channels: kidneys, colon, lungs and if necessary, vicariously through the skin.  Here’s where exercise plays an important role.  The lymph (clear liquid inside that system) does not have a pump to help move its toxic-laden cargo along, depending instead on bodily movement.  The more we move, the faster toxic residue is removed.  Conversely, the less we move, the more time toxins have to poison our system. Regular, aerobic activity is imperative for health and minimally, 30 minutes a day, 4 times a wk is recommended.  Try brisk walking.

Sunshine:  Vitamin D is also known as the “sunshine” vitamin because it’s manufactured in the skin as the sun’s ultraviolet rays react with a form of cholesterol present there.  Suffice it to say, it is vital to health and we, being in favor of the most natural way of attaining nutrients, suggest sunshine over a processed pill.  Try to regularly get as much sun on as much of your body as you can — within safe limits and avoiding the intense 12-3 PM rays.

Fresh Air:  One can live without food for weeks; without water for days, but without air for only minutes; it’s just that vital to life and good health. Actually it’s the 23% oxygen in the air used in all the body’s thousands of metabolic processes that’s so vital.  Pathogens “hate” oxygen but thrive in carbon dioxide, a toxic residue removed from the body with each exhale.  People living and working in spaces sealed off from fresh air may well be oxygen deprived and at greater health risk due to toxic chemicals released by the myriad man-made products within those environments.  Sleep with windows open and exercise out-of-doors, away from traffic as much as possible.

Pure Water: Only recently are people coming to realize that it’s generally not health supportive to drink “raw” water — that coming from the tap.  It may be bacteriologically safe but likely contains constituents harmful to health, such as chlorine, fluorine, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, man-made chemicals and a host of inorganic minerals the body cannot assimilate.  For health’s sake, water must first be purified; reverse osmosis and distilling being the only adequate means currently available.  If you buy water rather than purify your own, don’t be mis-led by the labels; buy only distilled or “RO”.  Water is the body’s main nutrient transport medium and must be pure.

Nutrition: Strange as it may seem, “food” must now be defined!  We’ve strayed so far from normality that our understanding of nourishment has become grotesquely distorted.  Emphatically — “food” is NOT just anything edible, nor is it food simply because it’s available in stores.  On the contrary, almost everything in the Standard American Diet (SAD) is detrimental to our health.  Please don’t become discouraged; there are satisfying, nutritious and tasty remedies to this major health problem.  Space will permit only the briefest guide to healthy eating.  We sincerely urge you to study the book, Robust Health; a Bible-based Primer by the editors of Health News™ and read some of the resource materials on page 46.  One must get beyond the dietary mis-information taught in schools and promulgated by those with vested interests.

The first nutritional commandment is, “Thou shalt not poison thyself!” In other words, we must learn what NOT to put into our body.  As we stop ingesting things detrimental, it responds by starting to restore health.  Nutritional focus must also shift from only satisfying our senses and stomach, to properly fueling the 100 trillion cells comprising the body.  Fostering cellular health creates healthy tissues, which make healthy organs, that contribute to a healthy body and a more vital life.

This naturally leads to the second rule for healthy eating: “Eat mostly ‘live’ food.”  Translation: eat it raw.  We highly recommend a 1965 book, “Raw Eating” by A.T. Hovannessian.  Though anecdotal, the rational for eating uncooked foods is convincingly presented and a “must read” for anyone desiring a healthier, more robust and vital life.  The underlying theory is that the body’s living cells need to be fueled by foods which themselves are enzymatically active; not denatured.  An example would be a carrot as taken from the garden.  It contains all the components needed by the body to both digest and assimilate it without having to borrow from the body’s reserves.  The carrot’s nutrients and enzymes are live; not dead, man-made chemical kinds the food industry so proudly laces food “remains” with.  The minerals are live.  Through photosynthesis, dissolved elements have been made living by the attachment of enzymes that our body recognizes and can utilize.  This living, positive energy food nourishes our body’s cells better than any other kind.

However, sustained temperatures of 108 degrees and above destroy those enzymes and “kill” the food so that the body can no longer use it without borrowing from its own reserves.  Therefore, all cooked, canned or bottled food is dead because it’s (at the very least) been pasteurized; that is, rendered “enzymatically inactive” or denatured — DEAD, for short.

Progress requires change — as is the case with gaining better health.  Your health next year will be the same or worse unless you change your thinking, diet and lifestyle.  Sorry!
