Looking unto Jesus

The Holy Spirit, in animating the writer of Hebrews 12:2, lasers the divine target, heart throb, idol and overriding preoccupation of every true believer: Jesus.  If we be so unwise as to let that focus settle upon any other: self, our enemy, things of the world or a local church, we have stepped out of the Father’s will.  We are to view self in the light of God’s holiness; the enemy, from under God’s wings; the world, to the extent required to function; the church, lovingly ... as our extended family and God’s gracious provision for the body of Christ.

Regardless of where our momentary glance falls, we’re to transcendentally see Jesus in Whom we eternally reside.  When basking in blessings ... it’s Jesus.  In the midst of a toothache, we see Him ... it’s Jesus.  In hearing ill reports ... it’s Jesus.  Upon entering a fellowship of believers ... it’s Jesus.  In jogging, cooking, laundry, crowded freeways, recessions, depressions, bill-paying, loss and love ... our eyes must remain riveted on Jesus.  He is our Redeemer, Saviour, Shepherd, King, Hope, Advocate, Strength, Destiny ... our all in all.

But above all, Jesus is our Lord and God.  It is Jesus Who paid the price for our sin; who surrendered His sinless self that we might forevermore abide in Him.  It is by Jesus we’ve been reconciled to God and welcomed into our heavenly Father’s household.  It’s in Jesus we live and move and have our being.  Jesus is the only One to satisfy God’s commutation requirements from the death sentence under which all are born.  This SAME Jesus, the Lamb slain for our sin, alone qualifies to soon open the seals upon God’s judgement scroll.  Selah.

As the nations unravel, scripture exhorts us to keep our eyes upon Jesus.  Recall also, it makes no provision for Christian political or social activism.  Besides, no political party or person can do what only Jesus will through His soon-coming Kingdom here on earth.  For certain, the time is NOW to decisively plant our feet upon the Rock of our Salvation ... Jesus.  With equal certainty, we will be severely tested, tried and persecuted for standing with Jesus and speaking truth in love.
