God holds YOU!

Dear one, if at times you feel you’re losing your grip on God, fret not.  HE is holding onto you and His strength is vastly greater than your own, and certainly more than that of sin.  In 1965 (before I was born again) Pastor Andrew McElwain of the Rockaway (NJ) Presbyterian Church, memorably demonstrated this scriptural truth.  Grasping one hand with his other, he showed how most Christians envision their grip on the Lord.  That is, our holding tightly onto Him.  The pastor then gripped both wrists to more accurately portray what scripture teaches: that it is HE of infinite strength Who secures that hold; not we in our paltry power.  He holds us, and that which He grips, no man, sin or circumstance, can dislodge. "I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.  My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand" (Jn 10:28, 29).

The Spirit reminds of this bedrock reality during good times, so we might not lose heart and give up in the hard times ahead.  Turmoil and distress are clearly in store for America and many quasi-Christians are apt to be swept away by tomorrow’s civil, political and economic storms.  Don’t be deceived; even violence is possible, whether or not attempts are made to break the bonds of national oppression.  Therefore, THIS is the day to "... gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1Pet 1:13).  Our dependence on God needs to be brought in line with His sure grip on our lives and souls (Heb 13:5,6).

Oh, how fervently we wish we had been “in Christ” earlier in our lives — then after conversion, better stewards of the years He’s granted.  Wishful thinking notwithstanding, today we are grateful beyond words to rest in Him with the certainty that, in spite of sin or circumstance, He holds us.  His mind, His Word and His grip remains unbreakable, fixed and secure. Be encouraged precious one, in His hold on your eternal soul.  (You are “abiding” in Him ... aren’t you?)
