Marching into ... ??

You might wonder if ours is the generation to see history’s wrap up and witness the return of Christ ... maybe questioning which (if any) “rapture” scenario is correct.  You could even be wondering if we or loved ones will be subject to Tribulation harm or Last Days horror.  If such questions do haunt, you possibly also want to know how to find solid answers, especially in view of today’s rampant false teaching.

As in land surveying, we need start at a known reference point; a “benchmark,” and in all matters theological, that’s God’s Word: Jesus.  Here’s what He says about knowing the future: "When evening comes, you say, `It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ and in the morning, `Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.'  You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times" (Mt 16:2,3).  He pointedly ignored miraculous signs and told the Pharisees to look for signs of the times.  Ah, with this clue, we can search for what else He might say about them.  Predictably, He doesn’t leave us hanging, introducing some with: "When you see ..." (NIV).  Run these “sign” scriptures (Mt 24:15,24,33; Mk 13:14,29; Lk 12:54, 13:28,21:20 & 21:31) and ask the Spirit to guide your investigation.

A clear, authoritative fix on these signs allows one to use them as “templates” by which to apprise global happenings. For example, consider Lk 21:31: "When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near." With the aid of reliable news sources, one can then study geopolitical activity to see if any of it fits.  Curiously, by following this singular Christ-given clue, the mid-east maneuvering of one nation (which also shows up in other templates) becomes suspect; possibly, malevolent.  It’s this kind of study that suggests East Jerusalem will soon fall as another link in a chain of prophetic activity.  Much, much more will “suddenly” be appearing.  (Watch Germany.)

Through scripture, we CAN know the future ... one that will overwhelm the unprepared.  We should be vigilant, good Bereans, doing our homework and work of the ministry (Eph 4:12).  Time is short.
