Purpose-Drawn Life

The Hamilton Building dominates Allentown, Pennsylvania’s skyline and though having never set foot in it, served us daily when in that area.  Whether driving in sister-city Bethlehem on its east, Fullerton or Catasauqua to the north, or Macungie off to its southwest — we could always get our compass bearings by looking for that downtown spire.

So it is with having a clear fix on God’s purpose for our lives.  It helps keep our bearings as we wend through life’s various streets, storms, triumphs and tragedies.  In the midst of its traffic and turmoil, we can know where we are compared to our divine destination; an unseen GPS.  Its guidance leads us to that delicious fruit of a love-motivated, faith and obedience-based journey; our divine destiny ... Christ formed in us.

Finding one’s purpose does not require someone’s 3-step book or 40-day program — nor is it gained by might, willpower or churchiosity.  This Romans twelve miracle transformation derives from the synergism of submission to scripture and His Spirit, possible, only by His merciful grace.  The white-hot love of God burning in our hearts, draws us to him as moths to a flame.  It kindles a passionate desire to follow hard after Jesus.  He is our purpose — the Alpha and Omega of our lives.  By the Spirit, we are found “in Him;” He in us, and both in the Father (Jn 14:20).  Christ is the Hamilton Building of our comings and goings; the ONLY sure way of knowing who and where we are in life.

Christianity is a moment-by-moment pressing after Christ with an, “I-will-NOT-be-denied” heart set of Him being wholly formed in us (Php 3:12+; Gal 2:20).  We don’t emulate, mimic or try to be “like” Jesus.  We submit to Him living through us.  In fact, the ONLY view of Christ many will ever see, is that which manifests in each of His followers (Jn 14:21).  Oh, how utterly simple, gloriously divine and wonderfully reassuring.

One does vastly better ignoring lesser buildings on churchdom’s skyline in deference to its central pinnacle: Christ Jesus.  It is He, Who by His Spirit, guides us to the Father’s house — Who paid for the trip with His life-blood.  We urge you to don blinders to the world’s deadly distractions and the deceptive and destructive dead-ends of the apostate church.  Fix your eyes upon Jesus.  Behold Him ... and so shall He be “formed” in you (meditate 2Cor 3:18 & Php 1:6,2:13).
