Praise the Lord!

Upon their deliverance through the Red Sea, Moses and all God’s people praised Him in song: "The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him" (Ex 15:2).  Read the entire 18 verse song; it will lift your spirit and encourage you regarding God’s faithfulness.  Of course, it’s much easier to praise God on the safe side of the sea — when the threat of drowning has passed; after he has brought us through.  However, the bigger challenge of faith is to offer genuine, heart-felt praise while still faced with lack, loss, persecution ... even death.

Burned into most New Testament reader’s minds is the account of Paul and Silas’ imprisonment for the sake of the Gospel.  After being beaten then shackled hand and foot, we’re told: "At midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them" (Acts 16:25).  Having been mercilessly flogged, their bodies were slashed, bleeding and in pain; the prison was hot, dark and the stone floor offered no comfort.  Yet ... they sang praises to God.  Whew!

This amazing fact is followed by two favorite words of scripture: “And suddenly.”  "And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed" (Acts 16:26).  Please DO take this to heart.  In fact, use it to club unbelief that would rise up in your own situation.  Should it prevail, it will keep you in the prison of fear of lack and loss; on the near side of your “Red Sea.”  Be bold!  Praise God from whom all blessings flow.  Praise Him in the morning; praise Him at noon, praise God in the marketplace, and when you’re facing doom.  The very least to happen is your spirit will be quickened by faith.  Your “prison doors” might also swing open.  Hallelujah!
