Shiloh or Mount Zion?
Although God’s presence, symbolized by the Ark of the Covenant, had long been absent from the Mosaic tabernacle, liturgical activity continued on. It was “business as usual.” They had become accustomed to, and perpetuated, a religious form which comforted by providing a false sense of security.
Have you ever been to such a church? The service might nave been smiley, punctual, predictable and short. But, there was no evidence of God’s presence. Maybe it had a great program, was led by skilled musicians, singers and an exegetical whiz-bang. Perhaps it had everything ... except divine power. If so, don’t despair. Within churchdom still exists the “real deal.”
For certain, it is NOT modeled after Shiloh's orderly deadness or expensive structure. It's more of the Mount Zion type: David's tabernacle (Acts 15:16). After, with much fanfare, retrieving the ark from Obededom's house (2Sam:6), it was set up on Jerusalem's Mount Zion in a makeshift tent. Now, THAT'S when and where church really began to happen. Night and day, King David and like-minded priests loosed unbridled praise, thanksgiving, song and worship directly before the ark ... the Lord's presence. God loved it and responded in power. It was a prelude to the New Testament Church of Acts-two and a preview of the heavenly reality which the apostle John was privileged to see (Rev 4-5).
Shiloh or Mount Zion? Pray; the Spirit of God will lead you.
