Speaking the Truth

America, in all its marvelous diversity, at one time had drunkards, alcoholics, bums, beggars and hobos. There were also garbage men, sewer-workers, Indians, plus invalids and the handicapped.  Nefarious creatures of the dark were also with us: gangsters, thieves, criminals, prostitutes, pimps and homosexuals (also: light-shy Communists, Marxists, Nazis and Fascists). Back then, workers got fired while felons went to prison. The United States Congress indulged in pork-barrel legislation and was the only body authorized to declare war.  Marriages were between men and women and Americans, regardless of ethnic heritage, were unhyphenated.  Oh, also ... illegal immigrants were criminals.

All that has been changed by the nation's moral and social decline ... evidenced by today's pervasive EupheSpeak and political correctness (PC).  We no longer routinely speak the simple truth.  If truth is included at all, it is often cloaked in elusive rhetoric and slippery, multi-purposed words.  For whatever combination of reasons, as a people, we seem unable to face the truth; to simply state the facts.  Indeed, those who would dare, are likely to be castigated, considered Cretins and/or otherwise penalized (test it out: declare that "Jesus is Lord," a few times each day).

Instead of speaking forthrightly, these days the homeless are the “temporarily unsheltered;” the poor are “economically depressed” or “financially disadvantaged.”  Slums are “culturally deprived environments” and drug or alcohol addicts are often termed, “victims.”  Garbage men have become “Sanitation Engineers” and sewer workers “Subterranean Specialists."  Indians are now hyphenated to "Native-Americans" (along with most all ethnically different persons). Invalids are “mobility challenged” and the overweight are “obese,” “heavy-set,” “full-figured,” “husky” or “weight disadvantaged.” Abortions are “planned parenting” and homosexuals have become “lesbian” and “gay.”  Homosexuality is now construed to mean one's "sexual orientation" or an “alternative lifestyle."  Additionally, people no longer get fired; they are “let go” or "resign."  Illegal aliens morphed into “undocumented workers” and prisoners are in “correctional institutions.”  Pork barreling is called “earmarking” and Communist, Marxist, Socialist have been rolled into “Progressive.”  In government double-speak, money-printing is called "Quantitative Easing" and deficit-spending is equated to "saving."  The U.S. Congress no longer declares war, but the president can order the military to kill and destroy, euphemistically calling it a “Police Action,” “Covert Operation,” "Humanitarian Mission," “Kinetic Military Action” or whatever will skirt the rule of law and U.S. Constitution.

Dear friend, Orwell's "1984" has arrived and there’s simply not enough space to log it all ... but you get the idea.

We are rapidly becoming a nation of Pavlovian collectivists and self-deceived cowards who can no longer bring ourselves to face the facts ... not even speak the truth concerning the most obvious matters witnessed by our senses.  All this euphemistic talk suggests a detachment from the real world; that reality itself must be softened and cushioned before we can address it. This is a societal sickness emanating from the highest levels of government ... down to the most irresponsible, entitlement-minded laggard.  It even oozes from some church pulpits.

Christ's followers dare NOT surrender to this satanic infection; we must dose up on the Word of Truth to throw it off.  A spade is still a spade, sin is sin, hell is hell, the shed blood of Christ has set us free, and the Lord will soon return to make all this sharp and clear to liars, unbelievers and those who think they can live by evasive or high-flying rhetoric alone.  Facts are facts and euphemisms are no more than unpleasant truths doused with perfume.  Notwithstanding, odious realities persist until faced and dealt with.  Christians should flee from PC and in love, BOLDLY speak the truth to one and all.  "That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ" (Eph 4:14,15).  After all, it is THE Truth that sets us free. "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (Jn 8:32).

PolitiSpeak be damned!  "Going along to get along" is NOT a Christian calling.  As for us, by the Spirit's enabling, we'll continue doing "the work of the ministry" (Eph 4:12) and "the work of an evangelist" (2Tim 4:5) by utilizing the "Three-foot Rule" ... proclaiming to all who come within three feet, that Jesus Christ is Lord.  To the glory of our everlasting Father and God in Christ Jesus, in Whom we live and move and have our very being.  HALLELUJAH!
