Brace yourself

The economy has degraded to a point that it’s probably too late to take some of the defensive fiscal actions suggested in our articles of 3-4 years ago (dump the overpriced house, gas guzzler and coupon books, etc.).  But, there is time to help gird against the cresting economic and civil tsunami soon to crash in upon us all.  More on this in a moment.

First, let’s remind ourselves that when our trust is fully vested in the Lord, provision, wisdom and peace are assured.  That is, to the extent we so live and accept the manifold blessings already accrued by His finished work on the cross, when we walk by faith, not by sight, trusting God and His Word in spite of appearances and circumstances.  

Now then, brace yourself.

Smoke and mirrors aside, reality is screaming that very challenging civil and economic times are upon us. The economy is closely tracking the Depression decade of the ‘30s and anyone with more than a room temperature IQ can see the “booming” stock market is little indication of the nation’s well-being.  It will, euphemistically speaking, soon make one of its “adjustments” (read that as, crash).  Housing is still going down; joblessness is up (10-20%) inflation is ablaze (food 27%) and the Federal Reserve is fueling it with QE (“crazy”) fiat paper money.  If that weren’t enough, the president has stoked his administration with Sharia-loving socialists, Marxists, the Muslim Brotherhood, thugs and perverts.  Oh, and “Czars.”  He has also relentlessly fueled class warfare, sued to keep illegals coming and not missed a chance to say, do or “decree” something injurious to this nation.  Adding to the injury, with seeming impunity, the Radical In Chief routinely violates the very Constitution he's sworn to uphold and has repeatedly usurped the authority of both the Legislative and Judicial branches of federal government.  Gol-lee, with friends like this, who needs enemies?  H-mm, makes one wonder if any of America's "leaders" can still spell "impeach."

Although God’s people have great advantage over the unsaved, we must never think we are immune to the horrendous turmoil straight ahead; that we can ignore the power orchestrating this world’s rampant evil, especially since anything godly is its most obvious target (Ephesians 6:12).  NOW is the time to reinforce our lives through prayer and Bible study.  They will fortify and guide us as nothing else can.

Jesus tells us to be “Wise as serpents and harmless as doves” — Matthew 10:16.  With civil clashes, 5-$10 gas likely and food prices heading into orbit (the rest will follow) cheap transportation and a pantry can cushion what’s ahead (please, repeat after me: “He did NOT say ‘hoard’”).  Well, okay ... pig out on God’s Word, then hoard it in your heart.  Beloved, Christians needn't fear and we really don’t need domestic fortresses, stocks, gold, locks and guns.  We need Christ!
